Tutorial: How to add a custom favicon to your blog.

2.10.2012

Have you ever noticed that some web sites have their own little icon (or favicon) next to their website name?

For example, Etsy has the E, Gmail has the envelope,  blogger has the B, Facebook has the f, Picnik has their little cloud logo, Twitter has their bird logo...etc. etc.

Until recently, mine had the boring Blogger "B" next to it.. I had changed it once to match an OLD blog design and it was a serious HEADACHE.  There was a lot of google searching, looking up what ICO means and how to even save one to my computer... a lot of hair pulling and hours messing around with it.

THEN I LEARNED blogger added an EASY way to add your own favicon without the google searching and hair pulling! WHO KNEW?! VIOLA! Instant custom favicon!

I am going to show you how to EASILY add your own custom favicon to your blogger blog & as a result, help to further develop your BRAND.

The first thing I did was open picnik ( I CAN NOT believe picnik will soon no longer exist...but that is another topic all together..) and upload the picture I wanted to use for my favicon:

It was way to big, so following the favicon guidelines I googled, I re-sized it to 32x32 pixels:
so teeny

Then you go to your blogger dashboard, and click on DESIGN.

Then up at the top left, there is a box that says "FAVICON" click on the edit beside that box.

Then the little pop up box appears and you can upload your teeny 32x32 pixel picture!

And you have yourself a CUTE custom favicon!

Hope this was helpful! If you decide to try, leave a link to your blog, I would love to come see!

Happy Friday!

Freshly Pinned: Fall Fashion & 2 Tutorials!

9.28.2011

Welcome to another edition of Freshly Pinned...where I share some of my recent Pins

Since Fall is here, and I LOVE shopping for fall clothes, I created the pin board "style me pretty" to keep track of my fall outfit ideas & today I am going to share some of my favorites AND teach you a new trick I learned!

<------- See that CUTE outfit & that nifty color palette beside it? I always wondered how people made those.  So I did what anyone would do and googled it...and found this post, which led me to THIS sweet site: OMG A Color Palette Generator! {THRILLED over here}

The first tutorial on how to use the Color Palette Generator is SUPER easy to follow...so I won't re do that tutorial.  But I will show you how to get rid of the ugly text it creates!

Example of what my palette looked like. {I didn't want the font #'s}

The second tutorial is taking a "screen shot" and cropping out the ugly text! So when I had that screen up I hit the Print Screen button on my keyboard to do a "screen shot" & then opened paint & hit paste. It automatically pastes the entire web page and then I just cropped out everything I don't want! EASY!  SO super happy I know how to do screen shots now!! :)

Now, on to the fall fashion:

Round Picture Collage Tutorial.

8.30.2011

I love mixing up how I present pictures on the blog & have been doing round picture collages lately. A reader emailed me asking if I would share the tutorial so here we go!

I use Picnik.com for all my blog collages & buttons.  I started 2 years ago using the FREE account and just this year upgraded to the Premium account for $24.95/year. It is totally worth it for me!

Click on the Collage Button to get started.

I used the 3 square one for my collage.

Since my blog background is white, I changed the background color from black to white so it blends in with my background.  But you can see you can change it to any color you want!

Move the Roundness button all the way over to 10 to make perfect circles!
Then click DONE & Save! EASY!

You can also use the Circle Collage to do something like this with words instead of 2 pictures! Here is how:

I used a 2 square collage to do this one.
Change the roundness again
Select only 1 picture from your photo basket and leave the second circle empty.
Add your text and move it where you would like it. I love to overlap some of mine on to the picture!
Change the font and text color and then when you have it how you like it, click done then save! EASY PEASY!

Hope that helped! If there are any other things you would like to have me show you, let me know!! I would love to share more tutorials!
